Con Dao is a paradise island, an archipelago of the province Ba Ria, Vung Tau, 230 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh city. It is a popular and famous historical place visiting for local travellers: Con Dao museum, Con Dao prison, as well as a great destination of lovely beaches: Dam Trau beach, SuoiNong beach, An Hai beach, Dat Doc beach,... surrounded by greatest majestic mountains and the national park of Con Dao
In the 2016, Con Dao islands were classified as a 4th place in the top 10 nicest beach in Asia

How to reach Con Dao:

The budget way by speedboat:

The Supperdong speedboat operates a big speedy boat, currently available once a day. Departure from Tran De port at 8.00 am, to reach Ben Dam port at 10.30 am

The shuttle bus service available at the two destinations, at the office in socTrang, you must be ready there latest 2 hours in advance, they require to book the tickets and shuttle bus seats 2 weeks in advance. The staffs speak the local language or hardly understand some simple English words.

From the office in SocTrang to the Tran De port, you need 35 km ride & from Ben Dam port to Con Dao, takes you 12 km ride to reach to the center.

The way back from Con Dao, the speedboat runs from 1.15 pm to reach Tran De/SocTrang port at 3.45 pm

You can book tickets via a local agency in Vietnam via Vietnam Impressive, with some little fee, is worth for a smooth connection.

The otherway by plane

The daily flight from Ho Chi Minh city/Tan Son Nhat airport to Con Dao/Con Son airport, 50 minutes on the plane with VASCO that collaborate with Vietnam Airlines, 5-10 flights per day depended on the season. This is a unique airline company available, the price is quite expensive, varies from USD90 - USD170,--/one way ticket, it is quickly full, 2 months in advance.

Best time to go:

March - September: ideal time, not many ocean big waves to experience a charmimg,calm beach, perfect to swim

May - November: rainy season, short rain, still can sunbathe with the sunlight, this also the breeding season of turtles, they come to the sandy beaches in the evening to lay eggs. Other beach activities available: diving, snorkeling

October-February: some beaches have big waves except some in the West, Southwest of the island are still more calm. This time, going by flight is a good choice to avoid getting seasick

Where to stay:

There have many choices of accommodation here from the budget/Homestay to the deluxe or luxury accommodation. You should avoid the local crowds in the national holidays and summer, where have lack of the availability and poor of service
